Gin is the answer.
First came the idea. Martin Birk Jensen is managing director of Skin Gin GmbH from Buxtehude. As a native Dane and long-time ship broker, he spent a long time tinkering with his dream of the perfect gin. Unlike other gins, it was supposed to be mild, fresh and fruity at the same time. With a dominant mint note and in loving memory of that one inspiring holiday in Greece.
A traditional distillery just outside Hamburg has been producing Skin Gin for worldwide sales ever since the production of the first bottle.
The bottle design itself was then developed to match the taste. Together with Erfurt Etuis, suitable materials were sought for the bottle design. Inspired by the anchor tattoo of a Norwegian sailor, a motif was quickly found. Because every sailor has his home port, his anchorage. While the anchor motif is repeated, the Skin Gin is available in optically different editions. Bestselling version is the chocolate brown-covered edition with Peyer CRYLUXE alligator. Extravagantly called “Reptile Brown Edition”, in a noble snakeskin look and embossed with copper-coloured hot foil.
Thomas Franz from Erfurt Etuis is still full of enthusiasm for design and material. Real leather was not an alternative due to the peculiarity of the bottle shape. The choice quickly fell on CRYLUXE alligator. Based on a latex-impregnated, coloured cellulose fleece, CRYLUXE is acrylic-coated and therefore robust and washable. An unbeatable advantage when used in the home bar. Produced in an environmentally friendly manner and also FSC®-certified, the requirement for resource-saving materials is met.
The excellent processing properties of CRYLUXE guarantee the success of hot foil stamping. Standard foils can be used and the best results are achieved with an embossing temperature of 110-120 ° C. Supplemented by the decades of experience of the Erfurt Etuis employees, this creates high-quality packaging for a particularly delicious product.
About the actual bottle production: Two pieces of material are used for the cover. These are die-cut at Erfurt Etuis. In further processing, one part after the other is coated with cold glue. The glue has to set or dry briefly, and is then manually placed around the bottle's belly and the bottle shoulder, aligned and painted. The amount of glue is comparable to the layer thickness of a cover production if CRYLUXE is applied to grey cardboard, for example. Precise glue application and the so-called opening time - waiting for the glue to dry slightly - are based on a lot of experience and manufacturing expertise at Erfurt Etuis. Both were defined during sample manufacturing and the initial production. Thanks to the constant material quality, this has practically not changed since then.
An extraordinary gin in an extraordinary guise. And a great example of how a product idea and packaging can develop into a total work of art with the right material.
